This policy explains how I handle the personal data of anyone who visits this website, sends a message through the contact form, or subscribes to receive notifications of new writing.

In short

  • I only collect what you give me: your name and email in the contact form, and your email when you subscribe.
  • I use this data to reply to you and to let you know when new writing is published — nothing more.
  • I don't sell, rent, or trade your data with anyone.
  • You can leave the list at any time, with one click, and ask me to delete your data whenever you want.

1. Who is responsible

The person responsible for processing your data (the "controller," in the language of Brazil's General Data Protection Law, the LGPD) is me, Magnum Mello Foletto, author and maintainer of this site.

2. What data I collect

When you use the contact form: your name, email, and the content of the message you write.

When you subscribe to receive new writing: your email address (and your name, if you choose to provide it).

Data collected automatically: as you browse, basic technical records may be generated (such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited), along with aggregate audience statistics, so I can understand what's being read — without identifying you individually and without any advertising tracking.

I do not collect sensitive data (such as racial or ethnic origin, health, political opinion, or religion), and I don't ask for anything beyond what's necessary.

3. Why I use this data (purpose and legal basis)

  • Contact: to read and reply to your message. Legal basis: your consent and the handling of your own request (art. 7 of the LGPD).
  • New-writing notifications: to send you an email when new writing is published. Legal basis: your consent, which you give when you subscribe and can withdraw whenever you want.
  • Statistics and site security: to keep the site running and to understand, in aggregate, what interests readers. Legal basis: legitimate interest, always respecting your rights.

I don't use your data for automated decisions that affect you, nor for advertising profiles.

4. Who I share it with

I don't sell or hand over your data. It may be processed, on my behalf, by service providers that run the site's infrastructure (the "processors"), for example:

  • a service for sending emails and managing the subscriber list (for the contact form and the notifications);
  • a service for hosting the site;
  • a service for content management.

These providers access only what's necessary to deliver their service and are required to protect your data. Some of them may store and process data outside Brazil; in those cases, I look for providers that adopt adequate protection standards, and by using the forms you agree to that transfer, as provided by the LGPD.

I may also share data if legally required to (for example, by court order).

5. How long I keep it

  • Contact messages: kept for as long as needed to handle the matter, and for a reasonable period afterward, for record-keeping and any continuation of the conversation.
  • List subscription: kept for as long as you want to receive the notifications. When you unsubscribe, your email is removed from the active list.
  • Technical records: kept for a short period, only for operation and security.

When data is no longer necessary, I delete or anonymize it.

6. Cookies

This site uses as few cookies as possible — essentially the ones needed to function (for example, remembering your language preference or light/dark theme). I do not use advertising cookies or ad tracking. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; some features may be limited if you do.

7. Your rights

Brazil's LGPD guarantees you the right, at any time and free of charge, to:

  • confirm whether I process your data and access that data;
  • correct incomplete, inaccurate, or outdated data;
  • request the anonymization, blocking, or deletion of unnecessary data or data processed in violation of the law;
  • request the portability of your data;
  • withdraw your consent and request the deletion of data processed on that basis;
  • be informed about whom I have shared your data with;
  • be informed about the possibility of not consenting and the consequences of that.

To exercise any of these rights, just write to me at magnum@foletto.me. I reply as soon as I can. If you still feel something is wrong, you can contact the ANPD (Brazil's National Data Protection Authority).

8. How to unsubscribe

Every notification email has an unsubscribe link in the footer. One click and you're off the list. If you prefer, just ask me by email.

9. Security

I take reasonable measures to protect your data against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. No system is 100% foolproof, but I treat your data with the care I'd want for my own.

10. Children and adolescents

This site is not directed at anyone under 18, and I don't knowingly collect data from children or adolescents. If that happens by mistake, let me know and I'll remove it.

11. Changes to this policy

I may update this policy to reflect changes to the site or to the law. When that happens, I update the date at the top. Material changes may be communicated through the site's channels.
